Posting Update!

My posts have been very limited over the past few months as I feel I underestimated the amount of work that was involved. It was easier during the summer months when college was not an issue for me, however upon returning in September I found it difficult to keep up to date with the posts.  I do however plan to resolve this now that its Christmas, and although I am still very busy, I have a more free time. So I should be back to regular posting. If you have any post suggestions or particular topics you would like me to deal with then email at: definitelybeauty@gmail.com.

How to help skin survive winter weather?

The cold weather is upon us and although Ireland is not extremely cold this year, unlike last Christmas, I am aware that some of you are suffering through extreme conditions. This can cause your skin to go crazy and not do what you want during the Christmas period. So here are a few tips to help you.
Source
Exfoliation
Exforiation will get rid of any dry patches that develop because of the drying cold weather but will also develop new cell growth and will help to absorb moisturiser. I find that it is the best to exfoliation in the shower with a exfoliation glove or a brush and body scrub. Also ensure that you moisturise afterwards.
Moisturise
I find that I have to increase the amount of moisteuriser that I use when it is colder. I will often have to change the type of moisteuriser that I use. Moisteurising within the first few minutes after showering will help to lock in any moisture. It is also important to start you something for your lips such as a balm as they can become increasing dry during colder periods.
Water
Even of you skin appears to be in great condition it s important that you are caring for your insides by drinking enough water. You should aim for the recommended eight glasses per day. It will help to reduce dry skin and you will have more energy.
Expert advice
Obviously these tips wont solve every problem and are more guidelines. However, if you feel that your skin isn't in the condition that you want it then go to a dermatologist or make-up counter and they will give you more specific advice as to the exact type of products that suit you.

I hope that these will help with the colder weather as it can be a nightmare to deal with.

Christmas wish list

So the festive season is upon us!! Although I try to block Christmas until the eighth of December...I hate that stores start putting out decorations and playing music in late October. And since it is now December I have started to compose the Christmas wish list.
Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation
Clinique Dramatically Different moisturising lotion

Philips HP6509 Satinelle Soft Sensitive Total Body Epilator
Flat Sole Boot

Belted Satin Dress

It's a short list to begin butt I'm sure by the time Christmas actually arrives it'll be far too long.

Sites of the Week: 11 November 2011

Have you got some old beauty and fashion products laying around then this article will give you something useful to do with them.

Bored of the usual pain everyday hairstyles, this is an easy and simple way to change that.

I love this site, there are so many great recipes and not all of them are impossible to make.

I'm not getting married but what girl doesn't love wedding dresses? These are fantastic and gorgeous.

This is a great outfit that could be easily used for a day-to-night outfit. Just change the heels for flats for a day look.

Hats are definitely in this season...forever21 have put together some of the main hats this season.

Always to link to making beauty products...sometimes making your own is truly the best.

Elf total face brush

This is another Elf product. It's the Elf Total Face Brush, from the budget range of brushes.
Product
As the name suggests this is a brush for applying powder all over the face. It has a very large top and therefore it is great for dispensing product evenly over the face. It has very soft bristles and therefore feels very soft to touch. It picks up a lot of product so I would recommend removing the excess product before applying it.

The only problem that I would have with this product is that their is a large amount of dye on the bristles. Even when I wash it now, and I have it for over a year, the dye still runs. It doesn't happen when I use cold water.
Packaging
The packaging is very simple. It comes in a clear plastic pocket that can be sealed again if you want to use it for travelling. There is also a brush cover over the bristles.
Price
The price is ridiculously good. It was only €1.50.

Would I buy this again? Yes

Pastel Blue Sparkle Design

I want to explain in this post how I created the design on my thumb and ring finger...it's very easy.
A few things that you will need:

One light bottle of nail polish

A darker complementing colour

A triangular make-up sponge

A clear top coat polish

A sparkly clear nail polish.
I applied a base coat and then two coats of the pastel blue polish.

After this has tried thoroughly, I applied the dark blue to by thumb and ring finger. It doesn't have to be a perfect clean line.
Next, I poured a small amount of the glitter on a white sheet of paper. I then placed the makeup sponge into in and dabbed it onto the desired nails.

This does not have to be done precisely has it looks best when messily applied.

Finally, apply a clear top coat.

And then your finished...easy!

Fall/Winter Make-up trends 2011

Every season has a new set of trends and since it's now fall and winter is fast approaching then it's time to discuss the trends that are upon us.

Think Eyebrows
Eyebrows shape the face so a thicker brow will definitely do this. It is a very natural look and also easier to maintain than the over plucked look that we are used to seeing. It can be difficult to grow back your eyebrows but once this is done then all you have to do is pluck the strays. Thick eyebrows were seen on the runways of Alexander Wang, Oscar de la Renta and Jean Paul Gaultier.

Eyeliner
Eyeliner is back...or was it ever really gone. It varies from thin winged eye lines to weirdly thick lines that almost covers the lid. Giorgio Armani and Gianfrance Ferre  displayed more classic versions of this trend, while Dolce & Gabbana and Louis Vuitton went for more dramatic versions.

Varicoloured Smoked Eyes
Who doesn't love a smokey eye? And what better way to do this than be changing from the usual grey's and black's. The shades of the eyeshadows used have changed. Chloe used the classic version of the smokey eye, while the runways of Narciso Rodriguez and Chanel modelled a more unusual look.

Vampy Lips
I am really loving this trend, which is usual as I usually go for a dark eye and nude lip but that is no more. Orange , red, burgundy and dark purples are all among the colours that are suitable for this trend. Yves Saint Laurent opted for this look on the runway paired with a flawless complexion.

Nude Makeup
One runway tells use to wear vampy style lips and smokey eyes and then we go to nude makeup...and that's all in some season . This is a difficult look to achieve. The makeup must appear as though it is not present even when it is. It is important to take care of your skin for this look. Also to have a foundation that perfectly suits your complexion and you will also need a neutral eyeshadow a minimal amount of eyeshadow and a nude lip-gloss.  This look was seen on the runways of Versace, Valentino and Alexander Wang.

Update!!

I have been away from the blog for about a week now and it has been troubling me that I have missed so many posts, which was something that I did not want to happen. I have recently started a Masters programme so I am very busy with university.  So I have decided that I will now post on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays instead of a post everyday. I will start posting every day when I have more time.
I am also doing a new round of Sites of the Week so if you have a suitable blog and want to exchange links then contact me at the address outlined above under the 'Contact' section.

If you have any requests for particular posts or make-up ideas also contact me.

A final message is a thank you to everyone who has been commenting and viewing while I have been busy.

Michael Todd Frosted Eye Shadow: Underground

Product
Underground is a great eyeshadow for a smokey eye look. The pigmentation is strong and it can be blended excellently for a smokey eye. If you want to use it for a more subtle look then a small amount can be applied for a more grey look. The texture is very smooth and soft. I apply this using an hard eyeshadow brush and then blend out using a soft eyeshadow brush, I feel that this works best to reduce any fallout.
Longevity
The longevity from this eyeshadow is great. I can wear it for up to ten hours without any creasing occurring. I will always wear a primer with this eyeshadow, however the swatch below doesn't have any primer underneath.

Packaging
This eyeshadow came in a nice purple cardboard box. The eyeshadow itself comes in a very hard plastic box with a removable grey insert that holds the eyeshadow. It can also be transferred into a palette.
Price
I purchased this from Love-makeup when they were having a sale on Michael Todd cosmetics. I paid £2.50 or €2.85 for this eyeshadow. They usually cost more.

Would I buy this again? Yes
